The Flagger had one of those days she loves in NW rural Olympia. Off of 36th NW, part of the old Shincke homestead. A long lane of ancient fruit trees; Pear, Apple, Crabapple, Indian Plum, and hundreds of the oldest and tallest Hawthorns I have ever seen. In some lore, Hawthorn is associated with purity. Ancient and beautiful. Blue sky day, edging towards Indian Summer. Young deer browsing for fruit salad, a bevy of emus in the adjacent field. Long legged, gawking stare, reminding me of tortoiseshell cats, for some odd reason. Kept in by hotwire. Good, I do not want to be chased by emus or ostriches. Golden Eagle overhead, Yellow Sapsucker on the old birch across the street, honey bees on late summer thistle blooms. Emu man and homeowner lady (where Potelco is boring for new wire) both are beekeepers. Dragonflies, swallows, oh, and giant sand art, Pirate Duck, most likely headed down for the Harbor Days competition. That's about it, except for the Rooster's braggadocious trumpeting all day. Add a Raven or three and those magnificent Hawthorns. A Good Day flagging for the dirt crew.
