The Flagger was outside of Tenino for a few days. The first photo captures a moment on a January morning in the country, fog, sun, firs, and an eagle, soaring above. The second is deceptive. This was a dangerous work zone at peace for the moment. Systems (Underground) crew working a short stretch along the highway. Curves and hills make choosing a safe flagging position difficult. Add to that, drivers pushing 70 in a 50mph zone. The previous day, they had hit power and the work zone was jammed full of PSE, Potelco boom trucks, excavators, trailers, backhoes, crew trucks...and we were flagging in the dark, in an emergency situation. The Flagger motto: Do what you need to do, to get the job done. Everyone went home safe, so it was a good day. All reactions: 41 Connie Starr, Will Scofield and 39 others

This is why The Flagger loves flagging in Thurston County. Early morning, looking west towards the Black Hills. The great American Bald Eagle surveying the surroundings. Yesterday, I was out Hwy 12, on the county's edge, looking north. Same misty, western Washington hills (geologically, these were eskers, remnants of our glacial past.) To the south of me there was an old dilapidated barn, overgrown fields...but..residing in that field were three noble beasts. The great American Bison. Mama, Daddy and Baby. So big, beautiful, and magnificent in their stoic silence. All reactions: 54 Connie Starr, Jeanne Rose Roxby and 52 others

The Flagger and her partner were clearing brush around signage today. The brush turned out to be these sycamores with the yellow dust on the leaves' undersides. The Flagger had The Violent Reaction. An ice cream cone and a burger for lunch helped. This stuff was viscious. Thank you Google Lens and Wikipedia for solving The Mystery of Nightmare Friday.   The Flagger's 'Day began with the brilliant and somewhat foreboding sunrise. She followed the patch truck all day long through the highways and byways of Thurston County. Filled a few potholes along the way. Talked with a citizen or two. This southwest WA county is typically rural with thousands of acres devoted to farming and ranching. Between showers, the animals were all out grazing. Hundreds of head of cattle and sheep. Herds of horses, blanketed and not. Donkeys, Burros, Goats, Pygmy and Full size, Alpacas, Llamas, Turkeys, Chickens, Pigs and.. the animals that most like Water Over Roadway signs.. a myriad of waterfowl...everywhere. Water, water everywhere. Some places a foot deep on the road.. The boys had fun with that. The water reflects the beauty of the woods, the fields, the complexity of sky. A most beautiful day in the coastal rain forest of Washington state. All reactions: 74 Connie Starr, Will Scofield and 72 others
